About Our College

Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rairangapur is the only Women's premier Non-Govt. aided Institution of Bamanghaty Sub-Division in Mayurbhanj District in the boarder land of Jharkhand State. The Prime objective of this Institution is to impart knowledge to the girl students in different fields of education as well as to look after the over all development of the students. Apart from this, games & sports are also an integral part to inspire the students to be physically fit. Moreover the Youth Red Cross, N.S.S., also incite enthusiasm and feelings of National Integration among the students.

The Institution also publishes a multilingual magazine "Mayurali" to develop the creative talent of the students. Besides the College also arranges departmental seminars and different competitors for normal growth and awareness of the students.

Brief History of College

Teach a girl, a family is educated. Teach a boy, an individual is educated. Enthused for higher education of the girls in this tribal area lurk in the mind of some doyens of the locality. The year 1981 brought a new sun rise in the history of higher education at Rairangpur, Bamanghaty Sub-Division, of Mayurbhanj District. The only college for the women of the Sub-Division, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rairangpur was founded on 25.09.1981. It started in the P.CM. club. In the beginning only intermediate Arts classes were introduced with subjects like English, M.I.L (Odia) and (Hindi) as compulsory and History, Political Science, Economics, Home Science, Logic, Odia were taught as optional subjects. There it was elevated to a Degree college in Arts in June 1889 with English, M.I.L. (O) as compulsory with Home Science as Honours under North Odisha University. The college was brought under full-grant-in-aid from the session 1988-89. One career oriented Vocational subject of horticulture, was introduce by the state Govt from 2007. Moreover, that college has got permission to open +2 Science with 64 seats for the session 2010-2011 from RDE (O) BBSR. The college got its own land measuring 4 acres 70 Dm. near Rairangpur block office. It was shifted to its own building on 5th February 1999. The college has been included under section 2 (F) and 12 (B) of the U.G.C. Act in April 2008. The U.G.C. has sanctioned Rs. 3 lakh for the purchase of books, journals, and equipments for the library and Rs. 15 lakh has been sanctioned to construct Girl's hostel.




During the past 29 years, the college has been marching towards fulfilment of the aims and aspirations of the founders of the institutions. Again, much is yet to be done for the greater and better enhancement of the activities of this institution for which the commitment of the staff, well wisher, students and sympathetic attitude of the Government and University are indispensable.

The College Crest

The college Emblem in the shape of a circle exhibits the ideals cherished by the institution. It contains the name of the college at its top. The luminous halo of the candle occupies the centre of the emblem which stands for spread of knowledge, enlightenment that dispel ignorance and darkness. The open book by the left side of the candle stands for opening of knowledge. The inkpot with a feather pen in it is the symbol of power of education. The very extract from the "Uponishad" "Tamaso Maa Jyotirgamaya" aims at teaching one from darkness to light and sanctity, nobility of the students as well as of the institution.
